Total ETF Assets Up 2.2 % in March

Total assets in the nation's exchange-traded funds in March reached $228.7 billion, up 2.2% from $223.86 billion in February, according to the Investment Company Institute.

While assets of almost all ETFs went up, assets of equity index ETFs surged by $3.67 billion, to $217.4 billion in March. Bond index ETF assets increased by $1.19 billion, to $11.32 billion for the month.

Last month, assets of the 110 ETFs that track domestic equity indexes jumped by $4.08 billion, to $179.71 billion, and the 46 ETFs that track international equity indexes saw assets decline by $415 million, to $37.7 billion.

The value of all ETF shares issued in March exceeded that of shares redeemed by $10.38 billion, the ICI said.
