Vanguard Wins Radio Ad Award

The Vanguard Group of Malvern, Pa. won the Financial Communications Society of New York’s 2001 Portfolio Award for Best Corporate Image - Radio for its radio ad entitled “Past Performance,” FCS announced yesterday.

The awards ceremony was held earlier this week in New York.

The ad was created by Vanguard’s agency, SFGT Advertising of Philadelphia, which has created two other radio ads and several print ads for Vanguard, according to SFGT.

In Vanguard’s winning ad, an announcer tells listeners that many investment ads that contain the phrase ‘past performance is no guarantee of future results’, also contain headlines that curiously relay past performance numbers.

“At Vanguard, they believe that when you’re investing in your family’s future, it’s not just about the stratospheric returns of a single fund in a single year,” the announcer says. “It’s about five and 10 years of performance. And about putting together a diversified portfolio...”

Charles Schwab & Co. of San Francisco won multiple awards for several of its TV ads and Barclay’s Global Investors also of San Francisco won two awards in the Consumer Retail Print Campaign categories, according to the FCS.
