Website Allows Social Screening of Funds

MoneyAndValues.com of Brentwood, Tenn. has introduced a website that allows investors and financial advisors to screen mutual funds and variable annuity and variable universal life sub-accounts according to their investments in companies whose operations have implications for 10 social or religious issues.

The issues include abortion, affirmative action, defense contracting, environment, gambling, nuclear power, pornography, same-sex lifestyles and tobacco. Online and e-mailed reports disclose what percentage of a fund's holdings are invested in companies whose operations have implications for these issues.

The site recommends that investors seek out investments that meet their criteria by working with the Values Financial Network, a nationwide network of independent financial advisors who embrace the values-based investment philosophy. But the site will begin offering an investment plan option for do-it-yourself investors within the next 12 months, said Stephen Bolt, founder of MoneyAndValues.com.

Bolt is also the founder, president, and CEO of Shepherd Financial Services, the adviser to the four Shepherd Values Family of Funds of Nashville, Tenn.
