On Thursday LIMRA released a list of its top 20 writers of overall total annuities, variable annuities and fixed annuities for 2010.
Half of the firms on the list improved their sales in 2010 and 70% of variable annuity (VA) writers increased their sales, with the top three hitting record sales.
Prudential Annuities took the No. 1 slot for overall annuity sales in 2010 and variable annuity sales. Prudential Annuities total annuity sales hit $23.3 billion, while its variable annuity sales were $21.7 billion. The top fixed annuity writer in 2010 was Allianz Life of North America, with a total of $7.1 billion in fixed annuity sales.
The top five slots for overall annuity sales went to Prudential Annuity, MetLife, Jackson National Life, TIAA-CREF, and AIG Companies.
