Manulife Lifts Equity Team From UBS

Manulife Asset Management has expanded its equity capabilities.

The firm today announced its creation of a new Chicago-based U.S. small cap equity team brought over from UBS Global Asset Management.

Led by senior managing director and senior portfolio manager Bill Talbot, the team is comprised of Joseph Nowinski, managing director and portfolio manager; Travis Schaftenaar, director and senior investment analyst; and Vikram Kaura, director and senior investment analyst.

The team reports to Christopher Conkey, global chief investment officer of Manulife Asset Management. The small cap team employs a bottom-up fundamental research approach.

“Bill and the new team bring to Manulife Asset Management an established track record of outperformance in the small cap equity space,” Conkey said in a press release. “Adding their considerable investment management strengths represents a significant step forward in expanding our U.S. small cap equity capabilities.”

Manulife managed assets of $231 billion as of Dec. 31.
