70% of Americans Worried About Saving for Retirement

A full 70% of Americans aren’t sure how they’ll be able to save enough for retirement, Bankrate.com found in a recent survey. Another 50% worry about being able to send a child through college.

Forty-eight percent worry about losing or being able to afford their home, yet 92% still believe owning a home is a good investment for the future. Sixty-one percent of respondents with a college degree think that stocks and mutual funds offer the best change for long-term financial returns, compared to 49% of Americans overall.

Due to the financial crisis, 36% said they are saving less than before, and 44% have not changed their savings rate. Only 17% have increased savings.
