John Hancock Financial, the U.S. division of Manulife Financial Corp., has named James D. Gallagher as executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer.
Gallagher, an 18-year veteran of the company, has served as global compliance chief for Manulife since 2005.
As general counsel for John Hancock, Gallagher directs all legal and compliance operations. In his role as chief administrative officer, he oversees John Hancock’s government, public and community relations functions as well as brand management and communications operations.
Previously, Gallagher was general counsel to Manulife USA. He also was president of John Hancock Trust. Prior to joining Manulife in 1994, he was vice president and associate general counsel for the Canadian operations of Prudential Insurance Company of America.
