In 2019, Mike Fanning, then an executive at MassMutual, began the process of making a new consolidated digital platform available to its advisors.

That platform — Advisor360° — went live at MassMutual in 2021. It did so well that Advisor360° has now convinced Fanning — who retired in May 2023 after 17 years at MassMutual — to come onboard as CEO of the wealthtech provider based in Weston, Massachusetts.

"I saw firsthand the transformational aspects of it, both at the advisor level, the customer level and the back-office level," Fanning said of his time implementing Advisor360° at MassMutual. "I love the product, so it starts with that."

Going forward, Fanning told Financial Planning that he envisions the platform as a widely used, all-encompassing tool that gives advisors the time and ability to capture clients who aren't the typical high net worth individuals that most firms target.

"I have a huge belief that most people in this country are underserved from a financial services perspective because much of the industry has gone to serve, say, the affluent to high net worth clients," he said. "What this product does for advisors is to help them serve more clients more efficiently. And therefore, they can spend time with clients that may not be in the high net worth space."

Fanning, who also served on the board of Advisor360° since his retirement last year, will assume the CEO position beginning May 1. Fanning replaces Richard Napolitano, who's retiring after holding the CEO position since 2020. Napolitano will serve as a strategic advisor to the company upon his retirement.

"Mike is a pioneer in this industry and uniquely suited to lead us going forward," Napolitano said in a statement. "I look forward to advising the company as it continues to evolve and grow under his direction."

Advisor360° is used by 22,000 advisors. Fanning said he wants to continue developing Advisor360° as a one-click platform that helps advisors through the entire client relationship process.

"My goal is to see the platform on every advisor's desktop that's in the wealth management business United States," he said. "That is where we're taking the company."
