American Century Investments of Kansas City, Mo. has agreed to provide a retirement planning calculator and a weekly financial advice newsletter to a web site devoted to people aged 45 to 65. Sponsored by Third Age Media of San Francisco, the web site covers a variety of issues besides money, including health, family and work.
The agreement gives American Century access to mature investors, the company said in a joint statement with Third Age. It also gives American Century exposure on a web site that has received $89 million in investments from such companies as CBS Corp. and Merrill Lynch Dean Witter, both of New York. American Century's investment services division also invested an undisclosed amount in the new venture in June.
In addition to providing the calculator and the newsletter, American Century analysts and portfolio managers will join Third Age editors in answering visitors' questions at the Expert Q&A Forum on the site. American Century will supply the calculator, newsletter and analysts' contributions for the web site by year-end, according to a company spokesperson.
