An SEC Legal Eagle Takes Flight

Robert B. Kaplan, former co-chief of the Asset Management Unit of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, has joined Debevoise & Plimpton LLP as a litigation partner resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

In his role at the Asset Management Unit, Mr. Kaplan co-led a team of 75 lawyers and industry experts focused on investigations related to potential violations of securities laws by advisers to hedge funds, private equity funds, mutual funds and separately managed accounts.

In his new role, Kaplan will advise Debevoise clients in a broad range of securities-related enforcement and compliance issues in the asset management space.

“Rob Kaplan is a talented lawyer whose decades of experience with federal securities laws, and most recently with those related to private funds and other asset management firms, make him an ideal fit for Debevoise,” stated Michael W. Blair, presiding partner of Debevoise.
