Baird Picks Up Former Wells Fargo Manager

Baird has tapped 30-year industry veteran Peter M. Miller to help recruit veteran advisors and open and manage a new office in the Northeast.

Miller most recently served as the head of Wells Fargo’s Advisor Development Group. He managed recruitment training and development in that role until 2011, when he left the firm during a reorganization of senior management. Wells Fargo had no comment on the departure.

Miller began his career in 1984 at Kidder, Peabody and Co. He joined A.G. Edwards and moved into Wells Fargo through a series of mergers in 2007 and 2008. Moving to Baird was appealing because its culture resembles that of A.G. Edwards, Miller said in a statement.

His new post will be senior vice president in the St. Louis office. According to the firm, he will not be managing clients while he focuses on recruiting initiatives and adding a new office in the Northeast.

“He brings deep industry knowledge; established relationships with legacy A.G. Edwards advisors; and an appreciation for Baird’s unique culture that will help us build on the success we’ve had attracting top talent to best meet the needs of our clients,” John Mabee, vice chairman of Baird’s private wealth management group, said in a statement.

The Milwaukee, Wis.-based firm has recently opened offices in Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City; Fort Worth, Texas, and Maine. Having added 250 advisors since 2009, Baird currently has around 700 advisors.
