Bank Stocks Help Dow Snap Losing Streak

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished in the black for the first time in seven trading sessions Thursday, gaining 19.98 points to close at 12,855.04 as bank and energy stocks moved higher.

The Nasdaq trimmed 1.07 points to end at 2,933.64 and the S&P 500 added 3.41 points to wrap it up at 1,357.99.

In economic news, the Commerce Department reported that the U.S. trade deficit widened a bit more than predicted in March to $51.8 billion. Meanwhile, import prices fell 0.5%, their steepest decline in almost a year.

The Labor Department said weekly unemployment claims fell by 1,000 claims last week to a seasonally adjusted total of 367,000. Most economists were expecting an increase to 369,000 unemployment claims.
