Berkowitz’s Disciple Opens Up Barnstar’s Doors

Charles Fernandez, former president of Florida-based Fairholme Capital Management, has launched the Barnstar Opportunities Fund, a multi-disciplinary, special situations long-bias fund.

Fernandez serves as the chief investment officer of his maiden offering, which will bet across the capital structure in U.S. companies that are significantly undervalued by the capital markets. According to the firm’s Website, the fund employs an opportunistic, fundamentally-driven, “private equity-like” approach to public investing while seeking to capitalize on “dislocated” and “misunderstood/mispriced” opportunities with asymmetrical risk/return profiles.

Fernandez has committed a significant portion of his personal net worth to the new fund, according to a press release.
