ETF Assets Rise 5% in October

Assets held in exchange-traded funds grew 5% in October, according to data released by the Investment Company Institute Wednesday.

The product's asset total rose to $190.51 billion in October, from September, and has grown 26.2% since Jan. 1.

Exchange-traded funds' shares can be traded intraday on stock exchanges at market-determined prices. Investors can buy or sell their shares through brokers just as they would the shares of any publicly traded company.

Equity-indexed ETF assets grew by $8.78 billion, to $182.72 billion, and bond-indexed ETF assets rose $333 million, to $7.79 billion. Assets of domestic equity ETFs increased by $7.19 billion, and international equity ETF assets grew by $1.59 billion.
