Hancock Names Carlin Independent Chairman

John Hancock Funds has elected interim board chairman James Carlin to act as permanent independent chairman of the board. Carlin has been a trustee since 1992.

"We are very pleased to have Jim leading our Board," said Keith Hartstein, president and CEO of John Hancock Funds. "His experience and financial acumen will serve us well."

Carlin is currently the chairman and CEO of Carlin Consolidated, an investment and management firm.

He served as Massachusetts commissioner of commerce from 1979 to 1981, secretary of transportation and chairman of the MBTA from 1981 to 1983 and receiver for the City of Chelsea in 1991.

Carlin received a B.S. in business administration from the University of Florida.

U.S. Trust Expands Miami Team with Four Positions

U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management has announced the appointments of four senior positions in their Miami, office.

David Edwards has been appointed portfolio manager, Lori Stevens has been appointed relationship manager, Cathy Alexander has been named private client manager and Patricia Kowalski has been appointed as custom credit specialist.

Prior to joining U.S. Trust, Edwards served as senior director of portfolio management and team leader of the Boca Raton portfolio management team for Bank of New York Mellon.

Stevens joins U.S. Trust from Wachovia Bank, where she served as vice president and a licensed financial specialist; Alexander previously worked for SunTrust Private Wealth Management, serving as vice president and client advisor; and Kowalski comes from Wachovia Wealth Management, where she served as senior vice president and regional credit manager.

"We continue to see an increased demand for wealth management solutions in Florida and nationwide," said Doug DiVirgilio, U.S. Trust Southeast Division Executive. "The expansion of our Miami offices with these experienced individuals represents U.S. Trust's commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our clientele in this region."

Since 2007, U.S. Trust has hired more than 250 client-facing professionals throughout the country. The four new hires bring the total additions in Florida to more than 30 in the last nine months.

Senyek to Head ISI's New Tax Policy Research Team

Investment research firm, broker/dealer and fund manager ISI has appointed Chris Senyek as a managing director and head of accounting and tax policy research.

"Chris brings exceptional expertise to ISI within our macro research offerings," said Ed Hyman, a top-ranked economist at ISI. "Clients have already expressed enthusiasm about the addition of accounting and tax policy research to our firm, and we couldn't have a better person leading that effort than Chris Senyek."

Prior to joining ISI, Senyek was a managing director at Bear Stearns.

Senyek joins ICI's top-ranked research team, which includes Hyman, Tom Gallagher, Francois Trahan, Jeff deGraaf and Mike Rothman.
