Callan Joins Credit Suisse As Head of Hedge Funds

Erin Callan, who was recently ousted from her position as Lehman Brothers chief financial officer, will begin a new role as head of Credit Suisse's global hedge fund business on Sept. 2. Callan will also join Credit Suisse's investment bank management and global client steering committees.

She spent 13 years at Lehman and was named CFO of the firm as recently as Dec. 1. She was also head of the global hedge fund coverage division. She will work in Credit Suisse's New York office and closely collaborate with the prime services, financial institutions and global markets solutions groups.

Rob Shafir, chief executive of Credit Suisse Asset Management and CEO of the firm's Americas regional operations, said: "Erin will help us take full advantage of this key market segment as we move to rapidly extend our gains with hedge funds, building on our strong position with this high-opportunity client group." Shafir came on board Credit Suisse in August 2007 after spending 17 years at Lehman, most recently as head of equities.

On June 12, Lehman announced Callan would be replaced as CFO by Ian Lowitt, most recently co-chief administrative officer, and would rejoin the firm's investment banking division in a senior capacity. Before joining Lehman in 1995, Callan worked at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett. She became the first woman to serve on Lehman's executive committee.

Hisey Becomes President Of AARP Financial, Funds

AARP has promoted Richard Hisey as president of AARP Financial Inc. and AARP Funds from CIO and treasurer of the two organizations, respectively.

Prior to starting at AARP in 2006, Hisey was executive vice president and CIO of Cole Management, a venture capital firm that focused on early investment in Russia. Before that, Hisey held positions as CIO of MFS Group of Mutual Funds, senior vice president of The Bank of New York and EVP and CFO at Lexington Global Asset Managers, Inc., which is now a part of ING/ReliaStar. He was at Lexington for 15 years, where he additionally served as the CFO and treasurer of mutual funds and was a member of the board of directors. At Lexington he managed both the Corporate Leaders Trust Fund and the first open-ended Russian equity mutual fund, which he created.

Hisey possesses a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and is a member of the CFA Institute and Boston Society of Security Analysts.

MMI Appoints Nash as Technology Co-Chair

The Money Management Institute has selected Cheryl Nash as co-chair of its technology and operations committee. She is a SVP at CheckFree Investment Services, now a division of Fiserv, and joins Kevin Miller, SVP at Dreyfus, as co-chair.

Miller has attempted to add depth and range to the MMI by appointing new members like Nash to the committee. Miller said: "This industry has substantially changed over the last seven years, and the role of solution providers has become more critical to the industry. Cheryl has a wealth of experience, and her firm plays a key role in this industry. The committee will be better served by her participation and leadership."

BNP Adds Hedge Execs

Thomas Mahala and Jason Miller, both formerly with Bank of America have joined BNP Paribas' global hedge fund relationship management team in New York. Mahala was a managing director and the head of the capital introduction group for Banc of America Securities, and Miller was a senior relationship manager for hedge fund clients.
