Lord Abbett Promotes 17 Executives to Partner

Lord Abbett has appointed 17 new partners, brining the total number of the firm's partners to 62. The promotions are in preparation for the firm's "next phase of growth," said Daria L. Foster, managing partner with Lord Abbett.

Robert S. Dow, senior partner, commented: "We are pleased to announce these new partners for their key contributions to Lord Abbett."

The new partners are: Jack Baldwin, director of global relationship management, James W. Bernaiche, chief compliance officer, Marc Furgang, divisional sales leader and regional manager, Frank Gregory, director of insurance and institutional insurance services, Bernard J. Grzelak, director of fund administration, Allison Haupt, director of product management, Michael Lesesne, Jr., director of research, fixed income and high yield, Elizabeth MacLean, portfolio manager, leveraged loans, Andrew O'Brien portfolio manager, fixed income, William Parker, senior director of due diligence, Arun Ramchandra, director of sales and marketing technology, Rick Ruvkun, director of U.S. large- and mid-cap equity research, Lawrence D. Sachs, research analyst, David Selbst, divisional sales leader and regional manager, Daniel Solender, director of municipal bond management, Paul J. Volovich, portfolio manager, mid-cap growth, and Michael Welshimer, divisional sales leader and regional manager.

Fred Alger Hires Young as VP, Senior Energy Analyst

Fred Alger Management has hired Michael Young as vice president, senior analyst covering the energy sector.

With 23 years of experience in the industry, Young comes from Chatham Bay Advisors, a long/short energy equity hedge fund he founded. Before that, he was with Fidelity Management & Research as a senior energy analyst and with State Street Global Advisors as a senior energy and utilities analyst. He also was managing director of equity research for Gerard Klauer Mattison and worked for Smith Barney and Deutsche Bank.

"We are pleased to have Michael join our organization as a member of our energy team," commented Dan Chung, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of Alger. "As the significance of the energy sector continues to grow, we believe that his extensive experience within this sector will be invaluable."

Blackstone Hires 12 Execs For Asia Advisory Team

The Blackstone Group has appointed 12 executives to its Asia advisory team, based in Hong Kong and Beijing, with two partners and three managing directors among them.

The two partners are Anthony Steains, formerly with Lehman Brothers, and Jianping Zheng, formerly with HSBC. The managing directors are Johan van Jaarsveld and Dong Hyun Lee, both of Lehman Brothers, and Jing Xiaowen, from HSBC. Antony Leung, chairman of Blackstone Greater China, said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome such a distinguished group of professionals. This move underlines Blackstone's long-term commitment to the region." Senior Managing Director and Head of Blackstone's corporate advisory group John Studzinski added: "This is a world-class team. Jianping Zheng brings his extensive mergers and acquisitions track record.
