Three Named to Board of Money Management Inst.

Jeff Cusack, president of Forward Management, Mark Spina, president and chief executive officer of ING Funds Distributor, and Lee Chertavian, chief executive officer of Placemark Investments, have been named to the board of governors of the Money Management Institute, joining 34 others who sit on the panel.

"Uncertain markets and concerns about the economy amplify investors' need for professional advice," noted MMI President Christopher L. Davis. "Our member firms represent an expanded set of solutions, and our board reflects an impressive body of experience to guide the industry through these turbulent times."

Also, Chuck Widger, currently treasurer and chairman-elect, will be succeeded by Ken Cella of Edward Jones. Further Dan O'Leary of Franklin Templeton and Jennifer Abate of Lazard have been appointed to MMI's executive council.

Zabel Joins ICI as Senior Media Director

The Investment Company Institute has hired Ianthe Zabel as senior director, media relations, from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, where she was director of external affairs. In her new position, in which Zabel is responsible for all media and public relations, she reports to F. Gregory Ahern, chief public communications officer.

Zabel originally was a broadcast reporter for an NBC affiliate in the mid-West, later serving as press secretary for a U.S. congressman, the National Federation of Independent Business and the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means.

"We are delighted to have someone with Ianthe's professional experience joining us to continue her accomplished career in Washington," Ahern said. "We are excited about gaining her perspective in during these challenging times."

De Feo Accepts Sales Post With First American Funds

Michael De Feo is now heading third-party institutional platform sales through 401(k)s and sub-advisory mandates at FAF Advisors and First American Funds, replacing Derek Chow, who is now overseeing the retail sales team.

De Feo most recently was head of the 401(k) and sub-advisory business at Pioneer Investments. Before that, he was director of business development at BISYS Retirement Services, institutional sales manager for Citizens Securities, director of sales for Reserve Management and national sales manager for Scudder Kemper Investments. He began his career as an institutional sales representative with Neuberger Berman.

Johnson Becomes CIO At ProFunds Group

Todd Johnson has been named chief investment officer at ProFunds Group, in charge of all of the firm's short and leveraged exchange-traded funds and mutual funds. Acting CIO George O. Foster is moving on to become director of product development.

Johnson comes to ProFunds from World Asset Management, which he joined in 1994 and where he last served as president and chief investment officer overseeing more than 100 portfolios, including collective funds, mutual funds and separately managed accounts for equity, fixed-income and real estate investment trust strategies. He also served on the firm's board. Johnson started his career with Manufacturers Banks, next moving to Woodbridge Capital in 1992.

"Todd brings to our leadership team decades of experience in indexed and quantitative investing," said ProFunds Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Sapir. "His track record in handling a wide variety of index-based strategies makes him ideally suited to take on that role for the growing range of ProShares and ProFunds."
