AXA Distributors Names Kennedy Broker/Dealer VP

John Kennedy, previously vice president and national sales director of The Hartford subsidiary Planco, has been named senior vice president of the broker/dealer channel at AXA Distributors.

In his new position, Kennedy is responsible for growing AXA's developing broker/dealer business.

"John has long been recognized as an industry leader in this area. He brings a wealth of experience and product knowledge and a deep understanding of and appreciation for clients' needs," said Jerry Hampton, AXA's strategic distribution services group vice president.

At Planco, Kennedy handled annuity, mutual fund, 401(k) and 529 sales and marketing to all of the major wirehouses.

JPMorgan Builds SMA Biz, Adding Two Senior Execs

In line with its plans to expand its separately managed account outsourcing business, JPMorgan Investor Services has named Steve Boyle and Brett Rainey to high-level positions within that division. Boyle is now director of managed account operations, while Rainey is a vice president at the unit.

Boyle, who has more than 20 years of industry experience, spent the last seven as director of operations for Bear Stearns' SMA business. He will work out of Brooklyn, N.Y., for JPMorgan and be responsible for both development and management of the company's SMA platform.

Rainey previously worked at MFS Investment Management, where he helped establish the company's SMA platform. Based in Boston for JPMorgan, Rainey is now charged with helping support SMA operations.

Curry Becomes Fred Alger Fixed Income Manager, VP

John A. Curry, a former vice president at Janney Montgomery Scott, has been named vice president and portfolio manager of the fixed-income unit of Fred Alger Management's balanced funds division. In this position, he will manage both the Alger Money Market Fund and the Castle Convertible Fund.

Before Janney, Curry managed $2.5 billion worth of institutional and retail fixed-income assets at Whitehall Asset Management. Before that, he was a portfolio manager of institutional assets at UBS Global Asset Management.

"We are confident that John's investment expertise will allow us to deliver the performance results that are demanded of us and that we demand of ourselves," said Daniel Chung, Alger president and CIO.

10-Year Russell Veteran Promoted to Managing Dir.

Russell Investment Group has named Greg Stark as a managing director in U.S. individual investor services, succeeding Len Brennan, who will leave Russell to "pursue new career opportunities," the company said.

Stark will also join Russell's executive committee and report to company President and CEO Craig Ueland. Stark, who has worked at Russell for the past decade, is credited with building Russell's investment management business in Japan back in 2000.

Said Ueland: "[Stark] is well placed to continue the excellent results we are seeing in the U.S. market, and I have high expectations for his leadership of this important area of our business."
