IXIS Promotes Witkos to EVP, Head of Distribution

IXIS Asset Management Advisors Group has named Matthew Witkos executive vice president for U.S. distribution, reporting to IXIS President and CEO John T. Hailer.

In this position, Witkos is responsible for the firm's sales, distribution and relationships with advisory firms in the areas of separate accounts, mutual funds, institutional services, defined contribution plans and sub-advisory services.

"Matt has been instrumental in the success of IXIS Asset Management," Hailer said. "He is truly an innovator, continually creating new opportunities to diversify our business and expand our relationships. We look to Matt's leadership going forward as we expand distribution efforts for our affiliated money managers and business partners."

Prior to joining IXIS in 2001, Witkos was a managing director and national sales manager with Forward Asset Management. Before that, he was with GE Asset Management, where he served as senior vice president and co-national sales manager.

Hirschmann to Become Legg Mason's President

The board of directors of Legg Mason has elected James W. Hirschmann as the firm's new president, effective May 1. Raymond A. "Chip" Mason, who is currently president, CEO and chairman, will continue in the role of chairman when Hirschmann assumes his new position.

Hirschmann is currently CEO of Western Asset Management, Legg Mason's largest subsidiary by assets under management. Daniel Fleet will assume this position when Hirschmann makes the transition.

The move comes after last month's election of Cheryl Gordon Krongard to the company's board of directors.

"The preparation of a new generation of leadership for the company is an important responsibility," said Nicholas St. George, Legg Mason's lead independent director.

American Century Hires Chang as Senior VP, CIO

Enrique Chang has been appointed senior vice president and chief investment officer of American Century Investments' international equity division. He joined American Century March 20 from Munder Capital Management, where he was president and CIO. Before that, he held several senior investment management positions at Vantage Global Advisors, J. & W. Seligman and General Reinsurance Corp.

Wilmington Expands Team Of Managers in New York

In an ongoing effort to grow its business, Wilmington Trust has expanded its New York management team. "Our strong investment platform, outstanding trust capabilities and unwavering focus on our clients are the key factors that have contributed to Wilmington Trust's growth in New York," said Peter E. Guernsey, Jr., president of Wilmington Trust New York.

Murray Stoltz has been hired as senior private client adviser and head of management sales. James Nesci is now in the role of chief operating officer, and Lisa Hurwich is a regional marketing director.

Stoltz comes to Wilmington from Fiduciary Trust Company International, where he served as senior vice president and director of individual business development.

Nesci previously served in Wilmington's corporate client services office, where he was responsible for developing fiduciary and agency services for corporations, municipalities and financial institutions.

Hurwich joins Wilmington Trust from Saatchi & Saatchi. She has also worked for J. Walter Thompson.
