AIG's General Counsel Joins Pillsbury Winthrop
Ernie Patrikis, who has worked as AIG's senior vice president and general counsel since 1999, will be leaving the firm at the end of the month to head the financial institutions regulatory group in the New York office of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman.
Patrikis joined AIG in 1998 as a special adviser on regulatory matters after having spent 30 years with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
In the interim, Steve Bensinger, AIG's executive vice president and chief financial officer, will take on management and oversight responsibilities of the legal division, pending the appointment of a successor for Patrikis.
While working at the New York Fed, Patrikis was deputy general counsel of the Federal Open Market Committee. He also served as chief operating officer, overseeing the legal aspects of government securities, foreign exchange, derivatives, wire transfers, check collection and coin and currency.
"Having led large-scale teams for both the Federal Reserve and a top global corporation, I want to do the same for a major law firm, in this case one with an established client base of financial institutions that can benefit from a full-scale regulatory practice at the highest level," Patrikis said.

ICI Appoints McNamee Communications Director
Mike McNamee, formerly acting chief of Business Week's Washington bureau, has joined the Investment Company Institute as director of public communications. He reports to Edward Giltenan, senior director, public communications.
McNamee has had a long and notable career in journalism. As Business Week's deputy bureau chief for three years, he helped manage Washington's largest news magazine bureau and directed coverage of economics, regulation and politics.
In his nearly two decades at the magazine's Washington office, he also served as chief Washington economics correspondent and as a senior correspondent covering financial regulation, personal finance, investor protection, pensions and healthcare.
McNamee has also won a number of journalism awards, including the Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism in 2002 and the Medill School of Journalism/Strong Investments Financial Writers and Editors Award for best feature on personal finance in 1999.
