ING Names Brown Retail Annuity President

ING has named Valerie Brown as president of the ING Retail Annuity Market Segment, the company's wealth management group.

The company has also appointed Patrick Yung as chief marketing officer of the Retail Annuity business unit.

Brown has moved up the ranks at ING, previously serving in a number of positions, including executive vice president of ING U.S. Retail Annuity and Wealth Management, president and CEO of ING Life Direct and president and CEO of ING Medical Risk Solutions. She also served in Amsterdam as chief of staff for ING Group's Executive Committees, Americas and Asia/Pacific.

She is a graduate of Oregon State University and has an MBA from Stanford University.

Yung joins ING from ConnectiCare Inc., where he was vice president of marketing. Prior to ConnectiCare, Yung worked for UnitedHealth Group as vice president of distribution and account management.

He is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara and has an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wachovia Picks Papadopulos As Retirement Group Head

Wachovia Corp. has promoted John Papadopulos to president of its retirement and investment product group.

He succeeded Robert Reid, who was put in charge of the real estate division in the Charlotte company's corporate and investment bank. The promotion was announced Friday. Papadopulos, 49, will report to David Carroll, head of the capital management group, and will sit on the division's operating committee.

For the past 12 years Papadopulos has worked for Wachovia's corporate and investment bank, most recently as managing director within its financial institutions group. Before joining Wachovia, he had been a managing director at Bankers Trust Co. in New York and at Continental Illinois Bank in Chicago.

The retirement and investment product group creates and distributes products and services for retail and institutional clients.

New York Life Hires Southeast Executive

New York Life Retirement Plan Services hired William Kline as vice president of sales for the Southeast.

Kline, 43, is based in Raleigh and will be in charge of expanding New York Life Investment Management LLC division's 401(k) and defined benefit platforms and their distribution in the region.

He was a managing director for CapTrust Financial Advisors in Raleigh. Before that he had been a national sales manager for Wachovia Corp.

New York Life Retirement Plan Services oversaw more than 2,100 comprehensive defined contribution, defined benefit, and deferred compensation plans with more than 854,000 participants as of March 31.

Bellatore Announces New Regional Vice President

Bellatore LLC has named John W. Gabriel Jr. as regional vice president of business consulting.

In his new role, Gabriel will direct both in-field and business consulting efforts for Bellatore's asset management division.

"He will play a vital role in Bellatore Investment Counsel's effort to help advisors plan for growth more strategically and achieve their firms' potential," said Bellatore President and CEO Al Steele.

Gabriel was previously vice president and Northeast Regional Manager at AllianceBernstein Investments and has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry.

He received an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado and a B.A. from the University of Denver.
