ICI Re-Elects Murphy as Chairman of the Institute

The Investment Company Institute has re-elected John V. Murphy, chairman and CEO of OppenheimerFunds, for an additional one-year term as chairman of the institute and ratified Martin L. Flanagan, president and CEO of Invesco, as immediate past chairman, so that he can continue his service as vice chairman.

"I am proud to be part of a strong leadership at the Institute," Murphy said. "Recent events have shown how ably ICI represents the interests of the funds, to the benefit of their investors, and I welcome the new governors who will join in this important mission."

The ICI also elected five new board members to fill open seats: Stuart Bohart, managing director and co-head of investment management at Morgan Stanley; Bruce L. Crockett, independent director and chairman of AIM Funds; Marc Mayer, executive vice president at AllianceBernstein; J. Alan Reid, Jr., CEO and president of Forward Management; and Michael S. Schofield, independent director and chairman of Evergreen Funds.

Alger Hires Meskiewicz, Doyle as Senior VP, VP

Fred Alger Management has hired Paul Meskiewicz as senior vice president, public funds sales, and Ted Doyle as vice president, consultant relations. In addition, the firm promoted Jonathan "Tyler" Foster to assistant vice president, client relations.

Meskiewicz was previously with Hartford Financial Services as a managing director, responsible for business development and client service for public fund and Taft Hartley accounts. Before that, he was with Bank of New York.

Doyle joins Fred Alger from Ark Asset Management, where he was a senior manager, responsible for the development of new business within the institutional marketplace. Before beginning work in investment management eight years ago, Doyle spent five years in the U.S. Army, where he retired with the rank of captain.

Foster has been with Alger since 2000, most recently as assistant vice president, investment analyst.

Harrison Becomes MD, MassMutual Midwest

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance has hired Brad Harrison as managing director of its Midwest region. Harrison reports to Evan Gray, the division sales manager for the Midwest.

In his new role, Harrison is responsible for third-party distribution sales in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and northwestern Wisconsin. He was a sales consultant at Alerus Financial.

Sun Life Financial Names Four Presidents

Sun Life Financial has hired a rival's former chief executive officer to be its president, and named three others as presidents of wealth management units.

Jon A. Boscia will be president, based in Wellesley Hills, Mass. He is to run Sun Life's overall U.S. business, apart from Massachusetts Financial Services, and oversee worldwide marketing. Boscia, 56, retired from Lincoln Financial Group in August 2007 after 10 years as its chief executive officer. Sun Life also hired his former colleagues at Lincoln, Westley V. Thompson, who is to join the company on Oct. 27 as president of Sun Life Financial U.S., and Terrence J. Mullen, 43, to be president of Sun Life Financial Distributors Inc. Robert Salipante, 52, was appointed president of Sun Life Financial International. He was president of Sun Life Financial U.S. the past five years.
