Archer to Head Asia Office For American Century

American Century Investments has opened an office in Hong Kong and appointed Tony Archer as business head, Asia Pacific, a newly created position.

Archer, an 18-year veteran of the Asian asset management industry, joins American Century from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he was managing director for Asia sales and head of the institutional advisory group for Asia Pacific. Previously, he was director of Australia and New Zealand and chief executive officer for AXA Rosenberg Asia Pacific and Japan.

In his new position, Archer reports to Michael Green, senior vice president of international, based in London.

"Establishing our international business in 2008 was a significant initiative in our 50-year history of providing value to our investors," noted Jonathan S. Thomas, president and CEO of American Century. "Our development into Asia Pacific is an important and strategic addition to this business. We are committed to achieving success for our clients and believe our approach also will resonate with Asian investors."

Suhr Joins Carpenter Group As Executive Vice Pres.

Peter C. Suhr has joined Carpenter Group as executive vice president, strategic initiatives, where he will leverage more than 25 years of marketing experience in asset management and brokerage services.

"We welcome Peter at a critical time for financial services marketers," said Polly Carpenter, president of Carpenter Group. "His experience managing the complete marketing cycle across channels, from product origination to distribution, enhances our ability to deliver end-to-end programs that help our clients capture more assets and revenue."

Suhr joins the company form Capital Fulfillment Group, where he led multi-channel marketing solutions. He has also held senior marketing roles at Alliance Capital, spearheaded strategic marketing and sales programs at Citicorp's broker/dealer and directed marketing and regulatory solutions for ADP/Broadridge and AlamoDirect.

"This move is a return to my strategic marketing roots," Suhr said. "By engaging earlier in the communications cycle, I can help shape high-impact, cost-effective programs that operate where marketing meets sales. From branding through delivery of hands-on sales and marketing themes, great marketing leverages investments made in key account partnerships, financial advisers and core product/application development."

Peters to Lead Wealth Unit At Jefferies & Company

Jefferies & Company, the principal operating subsidiary of Jefferies Group, has hired A. Markman ("Mark") Peters as managing director and head of the wealth management group. With 29 years of experience in private wealth management, Peters comes to Jefferies from SunTrust Bank, where he was EVP and head of private wealth management.

"We see a terrific opportunity to grow Jefferies' wealth management business, given the reduction in the number of full-service Wall Street firms serving this market," said Richard B. Handler, chairman and chief executive officer of Jefferies.

For his part, Peters said, "I'm excited to join a platform so well-positioned on Wall Street. My experience working in both brokerage and private banking, coupled with having helped build or restructure three wealth management franchises, will enable me to drive the expansion of Jefferies' wealth management business in this time of unique opportunity."
