Facebook IPO Fizzles; Dow, Nasdaq Woes Continue

The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed another 73.11 points to close at 12,369.38 and Facebook’s much-hyped initial public offering failed to prop up the downtrodden tech sector as the Nasdaq dropped 34.90 points to finish at 2,778.79.

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) shares opened to much fanfare and stormed up as much as 18% in early trading before steadily regressing to close at $38.23, up just 23 cents from its opening price.

The S&P 500 didn’t fare any better, losing 9.64 points to close at 1,295.22.

Friday’s losses contributed to all three indexes posting their worst one-week decline of the year.
