Fidelity Hires New Head Trader

Fidelity Management & Research Co. has hired Brian Conroy as senior vice president and head of global equity trading, responsible for international as well as domestic fund strategies, as well as being the point person for both of these desks, FinanceTech.com reports.

Conroy joins FMR Co. from Sigma Capital Management of New York, where he was chief operating officer. Before that, he was a head trader with Stamford based hedge fund, SAC Capital Management, a Sigma affiliate. He has also worked for JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and ABN AMRO.

Conroy is expected to take over his new post in mid-October, replacing Scott DeSano, who has moved into a position with a new strategic business development group following SEC investigations into ethics violations in Fidelity's trading department, according to published reports. DeSano reportedly is among the traders involved.
