BlackRock plans to liquidate and close the iShares Diversified Alternatives Trust (ALT).
ALT will continue to trade and intends to pursue its current investment strategies until May 28, 2013. Beginning May 29, 2013, ALT will be closed to creation and redemption activity, trading of the shares of ALT on NYSE Arca will terminate, and ALT will seek to liquidate its holdings into cash over a certain period. iShares expects the liquidation of ALT to be completed and a final distribution of the cash proceeds to be made to its shareholders on or about June 4, 2013.
Fund companies have been putting ETFs on a shorter leash, liquidating the funds if they don’t move. Last year saw the largest number of liquidations in the industry: 111, according to Lipper. This year through mid-April, 30 ETFs had been liquidated, according to Lipper.
