iShares Launches Emerging Markets Infrastructure ETF

iShares has introduced the iShares S&P Emerging Markets Infrastructure Index Fund. The timing is auspicious, as in May, emerging market ETFs attracted $6 billion, 40% of the $14.9 billion that investors placed in ETFs. And the trading volume of iShares emerging markets funds has increased 119% this year.

“Infrastructure is a rapidly growing investment theme that investors want to access,” said iShares co-CEO Michael Latham. “Global infrastructure spending is estimated to be more than $35 trillion in the next two decades due to a particular strain and need for infrastructure investment in the emerging economies.”

Advisers are seeking investments that have low correlation to equity and fixed income, Latham added.
