Late Rally Pushes Dow Into Positive Territory

The Dow Jones Industrial gained 33.60 points to close at 12,529.75 Thursday as a late buying spree helped the index finish in the black for only the third time in the past 17 trading sessions.

The Nasdaq lost 10.74 points to end at 2,839.38 while the S&P 500 moved up 1.82 points to finish at 1,320.68.

In economic news, weekly jobless claims fell by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 370,000 claims. The four-week moving average for new claims dropped 5,500 to 370,000 claims.

Also, the Commerce Department said durable goods orders in April improved less than most economists expected, increasingly only 0.2%. Meanwhile an industry survey from Markit found that U.S. manufacturing growth slowed in May to a new three-month low.
