Money Market Funds Rise in Latest Week

Assets in money market mutual funds rose $14.85 billion to $1.977 trillion for the week ending July 7, after a poor showing one week earlier.

According to the Investment Company Institute, assets in retail money market funds also increased – moving up $5.43 billion to $856.29 billion. The week ending June 30 had seen a $47 billion drop, from $2.009 trillion to $1.962 trillion.

The numbers seem to be an indication of a fearful pool of investors, uncertain over both the volatile stock markets and the up-and-down economic indicators.
