Most Ignore 401(k)s When Changing Jobs

Americans pay scant attention to a future employer's 401(k) or other retirement savings plan when they accept a new position, a survey by Fidelity Investments of Boston has found.

When asked about what options a new employer was offering for their savings already amassed in a previous 401(k) plan, only 30 percent said they were aware of these options. Twenty-four percent said they were either not very or not at all aware and 46 percent said they were somewhat aware.

Richard Day Research conducted the survey for Fidelity.
