Northern Trust Veteran Set to Retire After 38 Years

Northern Trust Corp. announced last week that James Mitchell, president of the firm's Worldwide Operations and Technology (WWOT) unit and a 38-year veteran of the firm, will retire at the end of May. Timothy Theriault, executive VP and chief technology officer of Northern Trust, will take over for Mitchell.

Mitchell, a member of Northern Trust's management committee, joined the firm in 1964. He held various positions in the firm's auditing, trust and operations areas, and eventually became executive VP. In 1999, he was named president of WWOT.

Theriault has been with Northern Trust since 1982. He was named chief technology officer in 1996 and executive VP in 1999.

Northern Trust also announced that Jean Sheridan, executive VP and WWOT group head, will join the firm's Corporate and Institutional Services (C&IS) business unit.
