ProShares Launches First Inverse Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF

ProShares has launched the ProShares Short Investment Grade Corporate exchange-traded fund, the first inverse investment grade corporate bond exchange-traded fund, which seeks to provide 1x the daily performance of the Markit iBoxx $ Liquid Investment Grade Index.

“There are signs that investment grade corporate bonds could possibly be richly valued relative to historical levels,” said Michael L. Sapir, chairman and CEO of ProShare Advisors, the investment advisor to ProShares. “Since the financial crisis, investment grade corporate bond indexes have reached record highs and credit spreads have tightened significantly. For investors who believe that investment grade corporates could come under pressure, [this fund] can be used to help hedge against or to seek to benefit fro potential declines.”

With this launch, ProShares now offers six inverse bond ETFs, including four inverse Treasury ETFs and a short high yield ETF.
