Raymond James Snares MSSB Vet in Atlanta

Raymond James & Associates hired former Morgan Stanley Smith Barney advisor Tom Shoup as the new senior vice president of investments in its Atlanta office.

At Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Shoup managed almost $300 million in client assets and had $1.3 million in production, company officials said.

"We are thrilled that Tom has joined our Atlanta office," Jim Hamilton, regional director for Raymond James's Southern division, said in a statement. "He has extensive experience, a great reputation and exemplifies a deep caring for his clients, which is totally in line with Raymond James' values and culture."

Shoup began his financial services career with Smith Barney in 1986 and remained with the firm until moving to Raymond James.

"After investigating a number of firms, I chose Raymond James because it is a successful, conservatively managed firm, with a great reputation of putting its clients first and offering its advisors great support," Shoup said. "I can be in control of my practice while doing what's best for my clients. After personally meeting with the firm's senior leadership, I knew it was the right fit for me."

Shoup graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a minor in economics. Raymond James officials said he will specialize in helping high-net-worth clients preserve their wealth while minimizing their taxes.
