S&P Acquires Japanese Fund Info Company

Standard & Poor's of New York has acquired a four-year-old mutual fund information and analysis provider in Japan, for an undisclosed amount. S&P said in a statement that the company, IFIS Inc. of Tokyo, is a leading provider of mutual fund analysis that includes "depth" and "local market knowledge."

Founded in 1996, IFIS provides daily net asset value and dividend data on 5,000 Japanese mutual funds, 1,800 of them open-ended and 3,200 of them closed. S&P has provided market analysis and data to the Japanese market since 1986 and now covers all of the capital market sectors there, including sovereign, corporate, municipal, structured, insurance and infrastructure ratings.
