SEC Taps Hedge Fund Lawyer to Lead N.Y. Exam Group

The Securities and Exchange Commission has hired Norm Champ, general counsel to hedge fund Chilton Investment Co., to head up its New York examinations group.

Champ, who has been with the multibillion-dollar hedge fund for the past 10 years, will start with the SEC in January.

“Norm brings to our inspection program an unusual diversity of experience as general counsel of a multibillion-dollar hedge fund complex, as a university lecturer and as a policy thinker,” said George S. Canellos, director of the SEC’s New York office.
