State Street Gets On iPad App Bandwagon

State Street Corp. this week said it will roll out a new mobile application for executive-level portfolio and fund managers' iPads in the fall, giving clients real-time access to portfolio and risk exposure data on their beloved mobile devices.

State Street is but one of several financial services firms to embrace mobile applications for the iPad and iPhone in the past year, a clear sign that advisers, clients and portfolio managers often prefer sharing and reviewing investment data on Apple's ubiquitous devices.

The app, dubbed State Street Springboard, will be available this fall from Apple's App Store.

Company officials said SpringboardSM will give users the ability to view their entire investment portfolio at a glance, including risk-exposure analysis, Net Asset Value (NAV) summaries and fund flows.

Clients will also have access to internal research and thought leadership materials, including the firm's Vision series of publications. The plan for now is to make this initial version of the app something of a foundation upon which future updates will be added to provide additional functionality and content.

"As part of its multi-year business transformation program, State Street continues to invest in new technologies, like mobile applications, to introduce new or strengthen existing services that meet the changing needs of our clients," said Chris Perretta, State Street's executive vice president and chief information officer. "The rapid adoption of the iPad in the financial services industry makes it a natural fit for our first foray into mobile applications for our institutional client base."

State Street clients will be able to access the app through Apple's App Store after providing a State Street client log-in.

Company officials said it will continue to explore and develop apps for the iPad as well as those for other operating systems and mobile devices.

"Clients are increasingly focused on risk management and are relying on mobile devices more than ever for immediate access to critical information in a rapidly changing global market," Pat Centanni, State Street's executive vice president and head of global product management, added. "State Street Springboard is extensible and customizable, enabling mobile users to fine tune their experience so that critical information and market insights are easy to access."
