Stein Roe launches small company growth fund

Stein Roe Mutual Funds of Chicago has introduced the Stein Roe Small Company Growth Fund. The no-load fund will seek long-term capital appreciation through investment in stocks of small, growing companies.

The fund began operation in April, 1996 as the Colonial Aggressive Growth Fund. It was reorganized into the Stein Rowe Small Company Growth Fund on Feb. 2.

Bill Garrison and Steve Salopek will co-manage the fund. They will seek companies that compete in large, growing markets, have ready access to capital, have leading market share, strong management teams with ownership interests and a business strategy designed to exploit growth opportunities. The portfolio will generally include 120 to 150 stocks.
