Stocks Dive in Late Trading on Renewed EU Concerns

Investors dumped shares in late trading Thursday on reports that German officials rejected some of the EU summit draft measures intended to help extricate some Eurozone nations from their daunting sovereign debt issues.

It didn’t help that ECB President Mario Draghi also made some comments that dashed hopes that the central banks would raise its bond purchases of debt-ridden European nations.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial average fell 198 points, or 1.6%, to 11,997.70 while the S&P tumbled 26.66 points to finish at 1,234.35. The Nasdaq also took its lumps, shedding 52.83 points, or 2%, to close at 2,596.38.
