Stocks End Flat in Rocky Trading

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed basically unchanged Tuesday, losing 1.67 points to finish at 12,502.81 in seesaw trading.

The Nasdaq lost 8.13 points to end at 2,839.08 as Facebook shares plunged another 9% to finish at $31, off $7 a share from its opening price on Friday. The S&P 500 inched up 0.64 points to close at 1,316.63.

In economic news, the National Association of Realtors reported that existing home sales jumped 3.4% to an annual rate of 4.62 million units in April – their highest level in nearly two years.
