Stocks Wrap Up Winning Week With Strong Gains

Stocks capped a four-day rally with another sharp rally Friday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average stormed up 96.50 points to close at 12,720.48.

Tech stocks managed to survive Google’s disappointing earnings report, losing only 1.63 points to 2,786.70 even though the Internet search and advertising giant’s shares plunged 8% for the day.

The S&P 500 inched up 0.88 points to close at 1,315.38.

On the economic front, existing home sales improved 5% in December, according to the National Association of Realtors, moving up to an 11-month high and posting its third-consecutive monthly increase.
