Thornburg Sets Up Shop Across the Pond

Santa Fe, N.M.-based Thornburg Investment Management, a $87 billion asset manager, has established an office in London, first overseas office opened by TIM. The firm has also appointed Chris Elsmark and Karim Elfar to the newly-created positions of joint managing directors in the firm’s new London office.

The two will lead Thornburg Global Advisors, the new London-based entity, and report to Peter Trevisani, Thornburg’s Head of Global Distribution and president of Thornburg Global Investment plc, their Irish-domiciled UCITS range of funds.

Elsmark joins TIM from Copthall Partners, where he served as senior advisor to numerous investment management firms. He has held senior leadership positions at Scottish Widows Investment Partnerships, BNP Paribas Investment Partners, and T. Rowe Price Group, including serving as Head of Global Institutional Client Business.

Elfar was formerly Head of International for Davis Advisors, the $48 billion employee-owned investment management firm. Prior to joining Davis, he had various roles within Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. based in Miami, New York and London.

“Establishing an office in London, a global financial center, will enhance the awareness of Thornburg’s investment capabilities internationally and enable us to better serve our clients,” stated Trevisani. “The appointments of Chris and Karim will significantly add to our international distribution expertise and reflects our long-term commitment to serving clients outside the U.S.”
