Towers Watson Expands Reinsurance Brokerage Business

In an attempt to expand its presence in the reinsurance market to better serve the Southeast, Towers Watson has announced it’s establishing a brokerage operation in the Burlington-Greensboro, N.C., area.

“The concentration of the reinsurance brokerage business and increasing client demand for leading analytics and software, highlights the need for scale,” said James Hole, managing director and head of property/casualty sales and practice development for Towers Watson.

Heading up the new brokerage operation in the region will be executive VPs David Johnson and Horace Johnson, both of whom joined Towers Watson from Axiom Re, the reinsurance subsidiary of Brown & Brown. David Johnson and J.J. Johnson co-founded Axiom Re with their father Jay Johnson in 2000.

“J.J.’s and David’s broking expertise will enable Towers Watson to strengthen its position as a leading full-service broker and insurance consultancy for clients in the Southeast region, complementing its position in the Florida market,” said Hole.

Prior to joining Towers Watson, David Johnson and J.J. Johnson were co-presidents and co-COOs at Axiom. David Johnson began his career at Aon, working in treaty reinsurance and capital market solutions, before helping establish Axiom Re. J.J. Johnson started with Chartwell Reinsurance before the founding of Axiom Re.
