WealthCounsel Launches Estate Planning Portal for Consumers

WealthCounsel has launched an educational estate planning portal for consumers.

The company says that Estateplanning.com is unique because it is aimed directly at retail investors. It provides consumers with information on a wide range of planning topics such as elderly care, inheritance, asset protection and disability. The site features a legal glossary and an interactive search function that allows users to connect with estate planners in their area.

In a 2010 nationwide WealthCounsel survey of estate planners, 67% of attorneys believed the main reason people fail to construct an estate plan is because they don’t understand the legal consequences of not planning. Sixty-two percent of respondents believed estate planning was only for the wealthy.

WealthCounsel’s chief executive officer Matthew T. McClintock says estateplanning.com was designed to dispel those misconceptions and educate those without estate plans.

“We intend to make estate planning understandable and relevant to all Americans, and we encourage readers to join us online and invite their family, friends and their team of professional advisors to join in learning together,” he said in a press release.
