Young advisors just got a new financial resource.

NAPFA's Genesis group, for fee-only advisors 33 and younger, this week launched a set of scholarships to help younger advisors develop their professional skills.

The scholarships include six to cover the cost of the CFP exam -- two for each of the thrice-yearly exams, to be paid only if an advisor passes -- as well as two scholarships that cover the cost of traveling to and attending a NAPFA conference, says Genesis founder (and Financial Planning columnist) David Grant.

Scholarships are open to any Genesis member. The group currently has 140 members, although Genesis is using the scholarships to launch a marketing outreach effort to colleges, Grant says; new members can join and immediately apply for the scholarships, he adds.

The first application deadlines are coming up: April 12 for the NAPFA conference to be held in Las Vegas in May, and May 1 for the July CFP exam. Applications are available on the NAPFA Genesis website.
