Two Promoted to Co-CIO at Nuveen

Nuveen Investments has promoted two portfolio managers, Emily Alejos and Andrew Thelen, to the position of co-chief investment officer of its Tradewinds Global Investors unit. They replace David Iben, who has left to join hedge fund shop Vinik Asset Management.

In addition to serving as co-chief investment officer, Alejos will continue as a portfolio manager and an agribusiness and food analyst at Tradewinds.

Prior to joining Tradewinds, Alejos was with Credit Suisse Asset Management as a director and portfolio manager/analyst on the firm's international focus team. Meanwhile, Thelen will also act as a portfolio manager and a chemicals and services analyst in addition to his job as co-chief investment officer. Previously, Thelen was an equity analyst with Concord Investment Counsel where he focused on analysis of company fundamentals and special situations.

Their predecessor, Iben, was a 12-year veteran of Nuveen and helped to establish Tradewinds. The funds he managed at the firm included the $12 billion Nuveen Tradewinds Global All Cap Fund and the $3.2 billion Nuveen Tradewinds Value Opportunities Fund.
