Abby Salameh of CAIS on growing alternative investments

Is winter's coldest stretch getting you down? Do you seek an escape from the harsh, frigid conditions on Wall Street?

Then allow Financial Planning to transport you back to the dog days of summer and directly into the heart of Surf City.

This new year, unwrap a special look at the Future Proof Festival through a series of interviews with insiders and newsmakers conducted by the Financial Planning editorial team.

In this clip, Abby Salameh, the chief marketing officer of alternative investment platform CAIS, spoke with FP Chief Correspondent Tobias Salinger about the trends driving the New York-based firm's valuations to $1 billion in its latest funding round of $225 million last year. Salameh joined the firm in November 2021 after tenures with registered investment advisory firm aggregator Hightower and independent wealth management firm Private Advisor Group.

New technologies developed by firms such as CAIS are attracting financial advisors and investors to alternative products getting renewed attention amid the losses in stock and bond values in 2022.

The products could draw as much as 24% of global investable assets by 2025 from only half that share in 2018, according to one study by the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association. CAIS has reached integration agreements with many of the largest wealth management firms that reduce the paperwork and other steps involved with learning about the products and investing in them, Salameh said in the interview.
