Dow, Nasdaq Cool Their Heels

The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 77.42 points to close at 12,496.38 Wednesday while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 lopped off 24.46 points and 9.30 points, respectively.

In economic news, the Labor Department reported that producer prices fell 1% in May – mostly as a result of energy costs falling the most since March 2009.

Also, the Commerce Department said retail sales declined for the second consecutive month in May, falling 0.2%. Business inventories rose 0.4% to a record $1.58 trillion in April.

  • Up 3.26% from its 2012 closing low of 12101.46 on June 04, 2012.
  • Down 5.90% from its 52-week high of 13279.32 on May 01, 2012.
  • Up 17.28% from its 52-week low of 10655.30 on October 03, 2011.
  • Month-to-date: up 0.83%.
  • Year-to-date: up 2.28%.
