Dow, Nasdaq Lose Ground on Economic Data

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 14.76 points to 12,962.81 Monday as investors reacted to a flurry of mixed economic reports at home and abroad.

The Nasdaq shed 25.71 points while the S&P 500 fell 5.30 points to finish at 1,364.33.

The Institute for Supply Management’s service index reported an expansion in the services sector to 57.3 in February, its highest level since last year and well above the consensus estimate of 56.1 for the month. 

January factory orders fell 1% in January, according to the Commerce Department, the sector’s biggest decline in more than a year.

However, China reduced its 2012 growth target to an eight-year low of 7.5%.
