Forward Revamps Sales Team

Forward has expanded its institutional and intermediary sales forces with a slew of new hires.

Clay Smudsky has been appointed Managing Director, Head of Distribution, a new position at Forward. In his new role, Smudsky will be in charge of all of Forward’s business development and client service activities. He previously held the position of president, Institutional at Forward. According to CEO Alan Reid, Forward created the new position “to better align its sales activities and messaging across client segments as the firm grows.”

The firm has also brought John Harty on board as vice president of Institutional Sales, which is another newly created position. Harty will focus on continuing to build Forward’s institutional business by establishing and maintaining client relationships with pensions, endowments, foundations and family offices in the western region. He most recently served as director of National Accounts for Pyxis Funds.

But that’s not all. The form has also expanded its intermediary sales team, adding James Pagliaroli as a wholesaler, Aaron Kravitz as Key Accounts Manager and James Lumley as sales associate.

In the newly created position of Key Accounts Manager, Kravitz, formerly of AllianceBernstein, will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with partner firm contacts, such as home office relationship managers, product and platform specialists, manager research analysts, and sales and marketing professionals.

Pagliaroli, formerly of Guggenheim Investments, will work directly with clients and prospects in the Southeast region and Lumley, formerly of Transamerica Capital, will also focus on serving financial advisors on the West coast.

The firm has been on a hiring spree since the departure of former president Jeff Cusack last month.
